Magento data upload

Been working recently on an upload feed for magento – didn’t like the system at all at first but it sort of grows on you.
Had to map all the feeds from the main feed to the equivalent fields in Magento which was fun but i just parsed the data in SQL and generated a new format file. Interesting challenges here included getting the categories mapped correctly – definately need to set these up first before you try to do an import since any unmatched appear at store level – which is a pain when 400 items are there but easily fixed by mapping the xml file to the correct category id.

One issue was the feed upload kept stalling – but since it’s an upsert – this was fixed by reducing the file sizes.

Vat down to 15 % (or is that prices increased by 2.5 %?)

Strange thing here – VAT has gone down by 2.5% but maplins prices are the same as they were before

So instead of us getting 74p off the price – they make 74p more profit

Obviously other places have hit the headlines over this – e.g. Severn Bridge but all quiet about maplin what a con – thanks chancellor

If you own any .com domains – you may be contacted by this company to renew your domain, i suggest that you immediately file any correspondence in the shredder so that it’s totally secure and you don’t unexpectedly pay at least twice as much as you should for your own domain.

Note that if it’s a popular domain – it’s going to be a lot more than twice as much – i know one person who got quoted a couple of thousand pounds to renew through them (for a year)- the latest one i’ve received (shredded) is for twice as much as it actually costs.

One of my customers was using a third party form embedded in an iframe on his site – but I’ve just implemented a form for them at Llanelli DJ’s site which at least conforms to the style of their site – black and white but their third party form was good old fashioned black on white so didn’t at all conform to the style of their site.

At least most of the Llanelli DJ’s site is fairly static but I think I’m going to have to install a links manager for him to enable him to add links to other sites himself.
