Just to let everyone know, since the testimonial year is over we have agreed to close down Robin McBryde’s Testimonial site. Anyone trying to use it will get an account suspended message. We are still getting quite high hits on the site so apologies in advance to anyone trying to get through to it. We hope that it will be out of the search engines fairly rapidly so that you can find other relevant information about Robin easily. We have also informed the BBC that the link is now dead and DMOZ should be removing the link in the next maintenance cycle

Forum lockdown update
Well, the forum lock down worked for a while, can’t believe that people are willing to go to all the trouble to register on a demonstration forum so that they can advertise their anti-spyware software. The forum is advertised as a demonstration forum to show some of the functionality available – no customisation, works the same way as my demonstration shop – couple of articles / items just to show some of the functionality. We are talking about a forum which gets about 40 hits a month – on a busy month!

BT Engineer arrives to fix the problem
Unfortunately he came to fix a line fault not the broadband – not that we even knew we had a line fault. So after 25 days of the fault we still have not got broadband (and can’t actually tell what was fixed either since the line quality is exactly the same).

Quick update on BT Broadband
No news – still ongoing but no longer with BT Broadband tech team now been passed to normal faults (on 15th August) and still not resolved – although I did have one call asking if it could be closed. I’ve had one call back from BT (which I missed) – rang them back asking for call back at a later date (in dubai at the time) and have called them since – always appear to be out and not returning my call. That’s despite sending a message to Sir Christopher Bland!
Recovering photos from smartmedia
Unfortunately while on holiday managed to format my sdcard – losing all my photos – good news is that I managed to get it back using Recover My Photos software – I’d definately recommend it to anyone unlucky (or foolish) enough to accidentally format their card using their camera software.
You actually know in advance before buying the software whether you can recover them or not. I know you could actually do the same thing using disk doctor or good old fashioned norton utilities since the flash cards are in fat format – but this is a lot easier than finding the old disks for them. Just put your card in your media reader, launch the software and follow the instructions. If it finds images you can preview them and only if the pictures you want are there actually buy the software.

You wouldn’t believe it in a story
But BT wholesale have now closed the call, BT Broadband can’t open it again without going through the checks for the router et al again. Since I have clients – I’ve had to go to their site all week and I’m not losing the income from my customers to do a check – got my son to do a switch router / switch filter so I know it’s not my kit but still BT. Looking at losing .5 days income from my main client to sort it out. What is this “Carry on BT” I’ve worked on that well known project “carry on regardless” many times but this is close to taking the biscuit – apologies to all the clients I’ve ever worked for and said to myself that you can’t project manage.

Broadband is getting a bit boring now
On the plus side – I have had the grand total of 1 call back on the status not bad for 5 days of a problem – great customer service (not). Update today (after I phoned) it’s still with the engineering section. Rang billing to make sure I’m not being charged for not having broadband (selfish I know should just pay out of the goodness of my heart!) to be told – billing can’t authorise that only tech support. This is going to be even more fun when it’s resolved – looking for other suppliers now but not worth it until the engineer fixes the fault since they’ll have the same problem because it’s a line fault!

Ongoing BT Saga
Still not resolved – out since 4th of August, they have now accepted it as a fault in the exchange and have sent an engineer out to resolve the issue. Luckily I can still connect via 3G using my trusty little vodaphone card or it would have been a case of digging out telephone numbers for old fashioned dial up connections.

Disaster with BT
Moved offices – broadband supposed to be enabled, it’s not, can’t even get a progress statement through the BT Business Broadband office – supposed to take up to 8 hours for the engineers to resolve (must only be working an hour a day since it’s now been down for 4 days (albeit one was a Sunday) but then again – still no closer to getting the issues resolved. Wouldn’t be so bad if they gave progress updates!
